Your first gold

As a young citizen having rather low professional skills and earning a minimum wage you are not very likely to become a millionaire in a couple of days or even weeks when your current paycheck is probably just enough to buy some food to restore your Health and Happiness. Your most important financial income will then be the Treasure Maps, which you will receive mainly for working 30 days in a row and for leveling up at certain levels. Unless you are very lucky and you hit the Treasure of Kings, the amount of gold you’ll find will usually be slightly less or slightly more than 5, and since you don’t receive those maps very often, you should spend the gold wisely. You’ll be able to access the gold when reaching level 12, until then you’ll just have to be patient ;)

First of all, don’t be tempted by the numerous boosters that promise to improve your results when working, training, studying or chilling out – only more experienced citizens with a high income (plus players who want to buy gold for real money) can afford those boosters. Also, boosters only make sense if you buy them on a regular basis - as a one-time purchase they won’t have any significant effect on the long run. These are the more efficient ways to spend your first gold:

- Getting a house: buying a good house with an intelligent Health-Happiness-Durability ratio will save you some money on the long run if you compare its price to the money you otherwise would spend on food in the same period (you can do the math for yourself by using this calculator for example).

- Speculating on the Monetary Market: although potting up gold may give you a warm feeling of security, making your money work even if this includes a small and calculated risk may provide you a nice addition to your paycheck along with some excitement. By studying the Monetary Market, the differences between the gold/currency, currency/gold and currencyA/currencyB rates, and by observing the stability of different currencies over a certain period of time you can make profit by buying cheaper and selling higher – you will find the basic principles in this useful Wiki article. Attention: there is some risk involved (as rates can fluctuate), and you must be sure that you understand the principles described in the Wiki article before you engage in any speculation. You should also take into consideration that it might take some time before your offer is sold, so you might be stuck with some foreign currency for a while.

-Starting your first newspaper (2 gold): getting that Media Mogul Medal will take quite some time and some serious effort, but still, a newspaper could be a very useful tool, which can make your social life in eRepublik more interesting and rewarding. And although good writing skills are a plus, some enthusiasm and creativity can be all it takes to create a great article
